THE VOYAGER PROJECT

QUANTUM PHASE ANTENNA

FOOTPRINT ACTIVATOR

Voyager 1 was designed to represent humanity as it travels through the cosmos. At almost 16 billion miles from earth, conventional means of communication are growing increasingly difficult. The quantum phase antenna beneath your feet—activated by your warmth and weight—is custom designed to send a pulse of energy to the satellite as a gift to help it communicate with

Whomever, wherever and whenever.

To activate the antenna, stand on the disk and wait for 30 seconds. You have done your part to align…

The earth…the human… the cosmos.

This project plays on the tension between science fiction and reality. It is envisioned as both speculative and educative, in that it hopes not just to revive interest in the Voyager satellites (as the most powerful, outward oriented extension of human conscious), but also to remind us in a smalland humble—way of our connection to the cosmos. Participants are not just communicating with Voyager 1, but giving it the necessary sustenance for its ongoing efforts. The Quantum Antenna is only as powerful as the life that energizes it.

Most science projects that are aimed for the public are of the push-a-button type. Here, the machine requires a much more active participation. It requires not just your whole body.  It also requires that you spend the necessary time to activate it. 30 seconds for many people in today’s age might seem like an eternity. But what is 30 seconds compared to the time scale of Voyager’s path into the cosmos? Whereas in most science projects, the participant is rewarded with something happening. Lights turn on or the machine moves. Here the reward is just knowing that you helped. If you scan the QRcode, Voyager 1 will send you a time-stamped email of thanks.
